Disrespectful Girls

Obviously, partners GIL Climaco and Rey Bayona Bayoging (RBB) yesterday—March 16, on their morning primetime program, were still stirred-up about those youths who were caught committing sensual acts inside an abandoned house four days ago, because they still discussed about their discourteous attitude yesterday morning in their program.

Accordingly, the four girls arrived in the place, still in their school uniforms. The neighbors, maybe concerned of their unlikely presence because at that time they were supposed to be inside their classes, asked them politely if why they were there, and what where their reasons to stay by inside such abandoned house.

Unexpectedly, the former have instead replied to the neighbors that it was none of their business! Imagine, 13 year old girls would reply in such arrogance to mother neighbors who only were concerned to ask the reason of their presence. Because of the uncourteous actions of the former, the neighbors left them. Thus, in those uninterrupted hours, the wayward youths were exploring sexual acts, despite of their very young age.

I’d like to correct one error, to yesterday’s story in this column. The teens were four girls, and only three boys—not four. Where did those girl get those wrong behavior? By all means, their parents did also teach them good manners. Do you think by the wrong company they joined with, such had seriously influenced them to become something else, than to what their parents trained them to be?

Well, we cannot tell! After all, we were not there in their day to day life. But candidly, even up to now, their acts and behavior continued to shock many Zamboangueños, and that includes even Baranggay eMedia. In fact, our field reporters—who also have children ages 13-15 years old, have commented as well: if those girls were their children, they could have received real castigations.

Perhaps, their parents have dealt them already, right after that confrontation few days ago. Indeed, it is the duty of the parents to shape the character of the children. The school goes only second, after the home. Another factor why parents cannot fully take the total care in the formation of their children is the issue of time.

Life nowadays is admittedly hard, so that both parents would have to work, as to supply the needs of the family. Now, in such set-up the children are left to themselves alone. And it is in this susceptible manner where they fall prey to certain predations along. Or maybe the simple peer pressure in school can also be the other stronger force which may constantly pull them to the wrong path.

Any peer pressure can squeeze a simple youth to conform to the crowd, because if he won’t he can be easily deemed as an outsider or even a reject. This stuff is a quite real and an existing issue or crisis amongst the teens in our schools. Besides, such is also a personal thing where teachers are most of the time cannot just easily intrude in.

The social media is now the norm of the new generation. It is through the internet where our youths absorb their philosophies nowadays. Unfortunately, many of these uncensored stuffs encourage them to explore wrong things, like sex and drugs. Did you see the pattern—peer pressure and the internet.

Though Baranggay eMedia would want to quality that the internet per se is not the culprit. Porn sites and other promiscuous online videos are the very ones, which parents, teachers and the public in general must keep the kids away from. In the Philippines, we only have limited laws with regards to these things. Thus, the youths are also limitlessly exposed to them.

“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established. The Lord has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble. Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished. By steadfast love and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of the Lord one turns away from evil.” (Prov. 16:3-6, ESV)
