Shoot-out in Sitio Belang-Belang

PDFPrintE-mail

Sitio Belang-Belang is a small island community across Manicahan. In fact, the place is under the area of responsibility (AOR) of the Sangali Police Station, so that any emergency to happen in the place, responding team can just easily cross in few minutes. Now, two nights ago—April 10, a shoot-out happened in Belang-Belang. Although such took place at nighttime, the police from the mainland was then obliged to cross andreadily investigate the situation.

When Barangay eMedia was also informed, our field reporter partner—Joe Rebollos, did also burn his brows to cover the story, so that he could report such the following day. It is now the Holy Week, but atrocities continue to happen left and right. Whew! Criminalities do not respect any day. Thus, even on religious holidays, media folks are on a continuous standby mode, so that when any emergency happens, they soon can sprint—fast as they can.

Needless to say that firearms flood in Zamboanga City, that to include those especially which are unlicensed. The total disadvantage of a possession of any weapon is when the owner is irresponsible, so that he may use it to harm others, when emotions are high. Thus, the very logic why license is very necessary for gun holders. The State, inasmuch, inculcate accountability to the holders themselves.

Including the PNP and the military, they do not rest this lent. They too are 100% awake, all the rank and files of both organizations are in red alert status, to maintain the safety of the general public. The expensive price of peace and order is seemed high on actual holidays. One good example are the crowds amongst religious shrines.

Throngs often attract criminal elements to permeate their overt acts—such includes from robbers or thieves to terrorists. Hence, it is pretty imperative for our authorities to give their total sobriety during the Lent. No policeman or military can easily go on vacation on holidays, like this weeklong Holy Week. Think about it, while the ordinary people can travel for vacations this time, our law enforcers do work their hard, for the safety of all.

If we only can adjure any criminals or to anyone, who has the potential to commit a crime, to at least lay-low during the Holy Week, maybe the first to do it are already the police or the military. They may not admit, but they too are human beings which also have limitations. They have families who may also want them around on special days, like the Lent. Such is more real to Christian policemen or servicemen.

Albeit, their duty is always over and above to their personal convenience. Thus, anytime you can see uniformed law enforcers around, just think of how they sacrifice for our safety and convenience. They deserve our due submission, also respect and courtesy. Admittedly, there are corruptions, which are perpetrated by policemen or even police officials everywhere. But it does not mean that the entire organization is also corrupt.

By and large, the PNP is untainted. They are there by virtue of law. Their very existence is to protect the people and the state. We ought also to trust them, not just sometimes, but all the time. There are moments where we ought to constructively criticize them, so that they will do their prescribed job well. But there are times which we also must appreciate their professionalism.

Barangay eMedia congratulate the dedication of all the men and women of the PNP and AFP organizations. While most of the people this week retreat, to reflect spiritually, the two are outside to give the necessary protection of the people. We pray that God’s sovereign hand will cover us then, from any harm and danger which may lurk around.

“As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day long, ‘Where is your God?’These things I remember,as I pour out my soul: how I would go with the throngand lead them in procession to the house of Godwith glad shouts and songs of praise,a multitude keeping festival.” (Ps. 42:1-4, ESV)
