IPS HERE TO PLAY IN THEIR OWN CAGE TILT

LAST Wednesday afternoon,”Sports- Long,”a daily radio program aired over DXVP, a Catholic Media Network(CMN) radio station based in Brgy. Tetuan, specifically situated inside ICES High School, and hosted by former Dist. 2 Councilor Roel “Elong” Natividad in tandem with yours truly Jun “Pencing” Feliciano, and heard every 4 to 5 in the afternoon, except Saturday and Sunday—featured tribal chieftain Nasser “Nash” Ismula and National Commission of Indigenous Peoples(NCIP) Officer-In-Charge(OIC) Engr. George T.Jocutan to separately interact with them on air with regards to issues affecting the city of Zamboanga and their respective offices and/or endeavors.

HEREcomes their crucial topics inquired by the hosts (“Elong” to Ismula): “What’s your league now?” Nash( a former local cage star) answered: “I’m going to form a basketball league here intended for our own IPs. They deserve this kind of an activity in our local sports. And, the competition will be among our five(5) known local tribes, like the samal bangenge, the badjaos, the yakans,  subanons and the kalibugans.” Nasser or Nash as he’s fondly addressed by my comrade-in-arm “Elong” Natividad pa radio steeds seguridad, was all praise for the NGOs here for their wholehearted support to his multifarious cause-oriented  activities— to include his group’s topmost concern in intensifying their own bantay-dagat campaign to help secure and safeguard the lives and properties of their own local folks— mostly fishermen and agar-agar farmers, living near the city’s known porous shorelines. Nash epitomizes the kind of person known to all and sundry in our own “City of Flowers” then, and now a renowned “Asia’s Latin City,” having seen its olden days like any battle-tested and true-blooded Zamboangueño, belonging to our peace-loving local tribe, none other than our own brother Muslims, the samal bangenge tribal people, here.

LOCAL GOV’T HERE FAILS TO EXTEND HELP?

WHEN asked if our own LGU, we mean our city gov’t of Zamboanga under our lady Mayor Beng Climaco-Salazar, is also helping out to his group—like in their routine patrolling of their own shorelines where their own minute islets of Layag-Layag, Liha-Liha, Simariki, and some other isles nearby their own where they were said among those affected, too, by our city’s own infamous bloody “Zamboanga Siege” in September of 2013, Nash appeared like his face fell, and had only this to say, “ Unfortunately, our request for help in training our bantay-dagat personnel, wasn’t granted, despite asking only the amount of P40,000. What we learned, it was the bigger amount of P 100,000 for our mayor’s own Zumba was approved, but ours for the bantay-dagat training, was not approved, at all.” But, he said, his group was at-least pretty lucky when ZABIDA (Zamboanga-Basilan Integrated Development Alliance) of Fr. Angel Calvo came to their help, instead, when the Catholic priest learned of their plight, and nay further ado, extended them their dire need to help out in their three(3)-day bantay-dagat training activities in a bid to effectively drive away the known various armed threat groups, particularly the notorious Kidnap-For-Ransom(KFR)Abu Sayyaf terrorist group and the Maute group, as well, whose long running bloody clashes with our gov’t troops in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, can very well cast their current bedlam up to this far.

THE tandem of “Elong”and “Pencing” in their hour-long daily radio show dubbed “SPORTSLONG” shifted their focus next on NCIP (OIC) director Engr. Jocutan and gathered amply well from him that his NCIP office is very much appreciative of the local gov’t’s continuous cognizance of its own IPs here. He said NCIP is a national commission meant to protect the rights and promote the interest of our IPs, nationwide, and in our case, our own local IPs namely: the samal bangenge, badjao, yakan, subanon and the kalibugan.

UNDER R.A. # 8371, NCIP was created in the early 2000 and is directly under the office of the President. It’s aimed to address the four(4) basic rights of all the country’s known IPs, namely the following: 1.)  Ancestral Domain; 2.) Self- Governance; 3.) Social Justice and Human Rights, and 4.) Cultural Integrity.

IT would have been very nice had Engr. Jocutan managed to wholly explain well all these four(4) basic rights of our IPs embodied under the above-mentioned Rep. Act 8371,but due to its time constraint – about to see the clock tick at exactly 5pm , that means the red light says your time now is upfor the regular “Vatican Hour” to follow next—perhaps, this very same tandem—the “Elong-Pencing” dynamo, is compelled to again invite the twosome, as well, Engr. Jocutan of the NCIP here, and our own local tribal chieftain Nasser Ismula, for our own local Zamboangueño Muslims living always in close harmony with their majority Christian brothers here in Mi Ciudad de Flores(City of Flowers) y aura Latinos de Asia( now, Asia’s Latin City already)—since time immemorial sans any known feud nor conflict at all.

What’s your say, you, strangers,  masquerading themselves as amongst us, blue-blooded Zamboangueños, yet inside them…Whoa!  (By Jun Feliciano) (30)
