(Enlightenment—Passage of the Day)

Q.) IS JESUS CHRIST NOT ONLY A MAN, BUT GOD, AS WELL?

A.) JESUS IS GOD ALSO. LISTEN, “IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD, AND THE WORD WAS WITH GOD, AND THE WORD WAS GOD..AND THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH AND DWELT AMONG US.” (JOHN 1:1; 14); “I AM ALPHA AND OMEGA, THE BEGINNING AND THE END, THE FIRST AND THE LAST.”( REVELATION 22:13). “NAKED CAME I OUT OF MY MOTHER’S…”

TODAY, I’m somewhere else. You want to be with me, today? Just kidding. But, definitely, today is a special day for me. And, I thank God for everything—especially, for enlightening me about how special we are in the sight of God. Of all His whole creation, man is His masterpiece. And, for this, I adore Him, I worship Him, and, I’m willing to die for His sake. “Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”(Job1:21)

IF I  happen to live longer, that’ll be bonus years for me, for God says, “The days of our years are threescore years and ten; I

If by reason of strength they be fourscore  years, yet their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.”(Psalm90:10)

Don’t worry, I’ll be back sooner or later after my brief sabbatical.

HAZING HERE TO STAY, UNLESS?

HAZING claims another life, as fraternity groups amongst the youths, to include in out la bella, step up their tough initiation rites on their new recruits.

Its latest casualty, Horacio “Atyo” Castillo, Jr. a freshman law student of the University of Sto. Tomas (UST), padded its soaring list of deaths since records of hazing fraternity initiation ceremonies existed when allowed by law, though, with certain stringent measures to avoid their possible brutal and cruel acts.

BASED on my own research, a total of 46 deaths have been recorded amongst frat groups’ unearthed barbaric and senseless initiation rites when committed overboard.

Prior to the Castillo hazing misfortune last Sunday (Sept. 17), the death toll in fraternity hazing incidents reached a total of 45—most, if not all, were young students  from various schools having their different frat groups.

SINCE records were made public in 1954, the names of all these fatalities were enshrined to remind how dastardly cruel and barbaric most of these frats’ initiation rites are.

The July 2014 ruthless hazing of 18-year old sophomore Guillo Servando of St.  Benilde College in the hands of his supposed to-be frat brothers under Tau Gamma Phi, prompted Congress to pass House Bill No. 4714—an act seeking to repeal the anti-hazing law which only regulates hazing conducted by fraternities, sororities. Senate majority floor-leader Sen. Vicente Sotto III passed Senate Bill223 in a bid to amend Rep. Act 8049 or the anti-hazing law of 1995 during the 17TH Congress which seeks stiffer penalties for violators. Sotto filed the bill to impose maximum penalty of reclusion perpetua for 20 years  and 1 day to 40 years.

Likewise, Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian passed his own Senate Bill199 which seeks to repeal the old law to create a more comprehensive anti-hazing measure by providing a more prohibitive definition of anti-hazing, to eliminate loop holes, now still pending in its senate committee on public order and dangerous drugs law chaired by Sen. Panfilo Lacson.

ZC has its own history of hazing casualties, too. The most recent was recorded in October of 2015, when an 18-year old college student named Anthony Javier, suffered severe injuries and contusions in his body due to hazing when he and several of his pals went through their Tau Gamma Phi frat’s brutal initiation rites held in a secluded spot in Mt. Abong-Abong, Brgy. Pasonanca. Seven suspects were later arrested for his death. As to what happened to its probe, that we’d like to find out.

JUST the other day, about 45 youngsters were rescued deom further punishment during their initiation into their frat group somewhere in a concealed place in Brgy. Tumaga. The group undergoing the rites included an 8-year old minor, according to our authorities. See, how such a brotherhood attraction through their frat groups entice our youth nowadays? Parents, keep them always under your constant and strict watch, lest they, too,  become like those 46 fallen victims- just too young to lose all their bright and promising lives for naught.(By Jun Feliciano) (30
