(Sharing Time) “Fires”

PDFPrintE-mail

WHAT are “fires” in the spiritual parlance? These are our trials, our sufferings, our persecutions and all those adversaries that just fire us up in hatred, in anger, in fury and all types of hates against our fellowmen we consider as our enemies in our lives.

AND, how do we react against them? Are we going to clash hate with hate? Anger with anger? Fury with fury? And, all other “fires” with same “fires” also? No. We have to conquer all those hatreds with Love, for the Bible says if persecuted, hated or cursed in His sake, rejoice instead for great is our reward in heaven.

“BLESSED ARE YE WHEN MEN SHALL REVILE YOU, AND PERSECUTE YOU, AND SHALL SAY ALL MANNER OF EVIL AGAINST YOU FALSELY, FOR MY SAKE. REJOICE, AND BE EXCEEDINGLY GLAD; FOR GREAT IS YOUR REWARD IN HEAVEN, FOR SO PERSECUTED THEY THE PROPHETS WHICH WERE BEFORE YOU.” (MATTHEW 5:11-12)

WHAT TYPE OF LOVE MUST WE HAVE?

BUT, what kind of love must we have so we can love perfectly well our fellow human beings? There are four (4) types of Love taught or demonstrated to us in the Scripture, and, here they are: 1.) Eros love (pronounced Air-ohs) which refers to sensual or romantic love. The terms originated from the mythological Greek goddess of love, which describes the sexual desire, physical attraction and physical love of mankind. Even though, the term can’t be found in the Old Testament, yet the song of Solomon vividly portrays the passion of erotic love; 2.) Storge (pronounced Stor-jay) love is described in the Holy Bible as not that very familiar to many of us. This Greek word describes our love for our own family where there’s this affectionate bonding that develops naturally between parents and children, and brothers and sisters. Many examples of this kind of storge love are found in the Scripture, such as mutual protection among Noah and his wife, the love of Jacob for his sons, and the strong love that the two sisters Martha and Mary had for their brother Lazarus whom Jesus rose from the dead; 3.) Philia (pronounced Fill-ee-uh) love is the intimate love that most Christians practice toward each other. Its Greek term describes such love as its powerful emotional bond seen in deep friendships, most general type of love found in the Scripture, encompassing its love for their fellow humans, like having care, respect and compassion for the people in need. The concept of brotherly love that unites believers is unique to Christianity; and (4.) Agape (pronounced Uh-gah-pay) love which is the highest of the 4 types of love in the Bible. It defines God’s immeasurable and incomparable Love for humankind. It’s divine that comes from God. Agape Love is perfect, unconditional, sacrificial and pure. Jesus Christ, the only Begotten Son of God, demonstrated this kind of Divine Love to His Father to all humanity in the manner He lived and died.

Without the Love of God called Agape Love or the Divine Love of God, all the rest still fall under the category of a selfish kind of love, just not pleasing in the sight of God. Even the Philia’s love falls short in attainingGod’s perfect love. Why? Because there are religions and denominations whose flocks only demonstrate their love to their own members in their respective churches. If you don’t belong to their sect, they’ll despise and even scorn you, to the point of condemning you— threatening in this manner, “If you don’t belong to us, you’ll go to hell!” See?

So, we need to practice the Love of God that’s the Agape or Divine Love to be able to love perfectly well our fellow human beings. God loves us so much. He didn’t give up on us (mankind) who—without our knowing it, aren’t saved at all for we’re all born in the flesh already with sin, as we’re all heirs of the fallen Adamic race as a result of the deceptive works of Satan, Lucifer the devil.

In that paradise garden of Eden, the devil deceived them to disobey God when they both succumbed to the devil’s temptation.God commanded them not to eat the fruit of the tree placed in the middle of its garden, yet they both partook it through the prodding of the devil who disguised himself as a serpent. Their disobedience caused both to fall from the grace of God, hence they never heard from God since then. They were, from then on, dead in the sight of God, which means that right there and then, both died spiritually, although they went on to live a thousand year more when speaking of their physicality.

THE DEVIL TOOK OVER THE DOMINION

SO, the devil took over the reign and the dominion from them, and now, it’s the devil who reigns in the heart and mind of man without our knowing it. There was no salvation for man to talk about, except for the few chosen ones, like the prophets— the likes of Abraham, Noah, Moses and the rest as mentioned in the Scripture.

But, God, as I said, didn’t give up on us for He loves us so much.

“FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD, THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE ETERNAL LIFE.”(JOHN 3: 16)
