Q. THE STATE OF OUR PLACE--BE IT CITY, PROVINCE, MUNICIPALITY/TOWN AND EVEN BARANGAY, OUR NATION’S SMALLEST GOV’T UNIT--DEPENDS PRIMARILY ON THE TYPE OF LEADERSHIP IT HAS. THE QUESTION BEING ASKED, IS THAT LEADERSHIP WEAK/WICKED OR STRONG/ RIGHTEOUS?

A. “WHEN THE RIGHTEOUS ARE IN AUTHORITY, THE PEOPLE REJOICE: BUT WHEN THE WICKED BEARETH RULE, THE PEOPLE MOURN.” (PROVERBS 29:2). Email: jayfeliciano2@yahoo.com

LET’s get it onnn!

I’m talking about my team ever in the NBA—the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavaliers, of-course, powered by its # 1 superstar Lebron “King” James, swept the  Toronto Raptors (4 to nil) in the Western Conference semi-finals to be in its Conference Finals for the nth time, since Lebron returned to Cleveland from the Miami Heat in year 2015. Lebron led the Heat to its 2-peat NBA titles in 2012 and 2013 before bowing to the San Antonio Spurs in their listless NBA title defense the following year.

The Raptors topped as the no. 1 team for the Eastern division during this year’s NBA regular season, but they never did anything to live up to its billing against the Lebron-led Cavaliers. The Cavaliers became the only team in NBA history to win its prestigious crown in the 2016 NBA finals after coming back from a 3-1 deficit. They set that incredible feat vs. the defending champ Golden State Warriors. It was its first ever NBA title after more than a four-decade drought since it joined the world’s biggest hoopla league back in 1970. James or Lebron to most of his countless adoring fans all over the globe, was the first ever young prospect to play in the NBA direct from high school. And the youngest to don an NBAjersey at 18. Right now, he continues to wreak havoc in theNBA by setting records one after another. The latest of which came in April 7 this yearwhen he became the youngest ever player in NBA history to rack up 31,000 points, and now in the pantheon of only seven players-- to include Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, to achieve such a milestone. Lebron also broke Michael Jordan’s all-time record last March 31, in scoring at-least 10 points in all his consecutive games after achieving the feat in his 867THsuccessive fixture. That was the most recent of all the numerous records he established, since becoming as the youngest ever to be drafted no. 1 in the history of NBA duringits 2003 annual draft of new players in its biggest cage tournament on planet. Lebron will again bear upon his shoulder the team he first played with, direct from high school, when the Cavaliers open up its defense of the Eastern Conference title against Boston Celtics this coming Tuesday, May 15. The Celtics spring a big surprise when it landed as the number 2 seed in the Eastern division during the regular season this year. The Celtics defeated the no. 3 seed Philadelphia Sixers yesterday, May10, to arrange its first showdown in its Conference finals vs. the defending Conference champ Cavaliers. The Celtics will have the home-court advantage over the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, they’re said the underdogs when they meet the Cavaliers on Tuesday next week.

IN the Western conference, it’s the two top seeds, Houston Rockets (no. 1 seed) vs.this year’s NBAdefending champ, the Golden Warriors (no. 2 seed) to collide for its own coveted title, prior to the ultimate (2018) NBA finals.

The Rockets topped overall in this year’s NBA regular season which makes their own matchup more intriguing and more interesting. Can the Rockets eliminate the Warriors and be in the NBA finals for the first time, since the 2-peat triumph that the Rockets set during the heyday of Hakeem “the Dream” Olajuwon in 1994 and in 1995, or more than two decades back?

Wow! This is great for basketball, man! I love it. So, let’s bring it on, guys! I mean, you, Cleveland Cavaliers! Or I’ll never see NBA again. Never! When that happens (Heaven forbid!), I’ll switch to boxing, my first ever love in any game of sports. Why?  Ask my primo Ben Estrella from City Hall, and he’ll tell you everything as to why. Nuay langakalan. That means, let’s be fair and be good sport all the time.

Thanks, and happy weekend to everyone! (By Jun Feliciano) (30)
