Here’s a short breathing spell of a newsbit for athletic buffs. The rehabilitation of the Zamboanga City Sports Complex is now 80% complete. And soon ghey may again se the oval for a run or walk around for an exercise.

The project started on March 22, 2016, has 276 calendar days for completion. And the contract cost for the rehabilitation and repair is a whooping PhP187,065,353.12.

Engr. Shadimar D. Jalaidi, DPWH 9 Project Engineer said underway is the installation of rubber and artificial grass in the playing courts. The latter work, however still awaits the arrival of the technician from France who will supervise the leg work.

He said that they will try to finish the project by September, this year.

DPWH is the lead agency which oversees the repair and rehabilitation of the sports complex, contracted R.U. Aquino Construction and Development Corporation (RCDG.)

Recall that the grandstand was destroyed after more than 100,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) were housed in the area after the September 2013 Zamboanga Siege.

The Department of Education through the City Schools Division Office has issued policies on the opening of classes for School Year 2018-2019.

Dr. Rosalio Conturno, chief of School Governance Operations Division, laid down the policies, such as he  the “No Collection Policy” during enrolment.

The policy applies to and from kinder to Grade 4 levels, s well as for Grade 5 to High School levels up to the 1st month of classes.

Starting second month of every school year,  certtain authorized contributions may be collected but on a voluntary basis only, Conturno added.

Under the policy, no teacher, school official nor school personnel shall collect fees or contributions, nor shall they be entrusted with the safekeeping and disbursement of collections made by the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA).

He pointed out that in no case shall non-payment of voluntary school contributions or membership fees be made a basis for non-admission, non-promotion or non-issuance of clearance to a student by the school concerned.

Sen. Vicente “Tito” Sotto III on Monday unseated Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel, who stepped down from the senate seat as he jumped the gun on the majority bloc who were ready with a resolution supporting  Sotto to the post.

Succeding Sotto as Majority Leader, is Sen. Jose “Migz” Zubiri.

Malacañang said it is looking forward to working with the incoming Senate president on priority legislative measures after having good relations with Pimentel. (By Jimmy Cabato)
