(Sharing Time) The greatest love of all

PDFPrintE-mail

THERE are four known types of Love introduced to mankind. These are as follows: Eros (Air-ohs), Storge (Stor-jay), Philias (Fill-ee-uh) and Agape (Uh-Gah-Pay).

EROS (Greek word) love is a romantic or sensual love that is more of man’s sexual desire and physical attraction towards the opposite sex. This is not found in the Old Testament, though, could be said in the song of Solomon that portrayed their passion for erotic love. This type of love is still a selfish love. Next is STORGE love which is described as love for the family. The affectionate bond that develops naturally between parents and children, brothers and sisters. Still selfish love, for it’s only meant amongst brothers and sisters and parents towards their own children; PHILIAS love is that type of intimate love practiced by most Christians towards each other, and is described as its powerful and emotional bond in deep friendships. Still a selfish love, for it’s mostly practiced now by the different religions and denominations. Why still selfish is the fact that most religions and denominations practice this kind of love only amongst their own flocks having same creed and faith. If they don’t profess the same faith and/or creed, they don’t show that type of love to outsiders.Still a selfish love. Now, here’s the AGAPE love. This is the highest and all-inclusive form of love that truly defines God’s immeasurable, incomparable love for humankind. It is the Divine love that comes from God. AGAPE love is perfect, unconditional, sacrificial and pure. Jesus Christ demonstrated this kind of Divine love to His Father and to all humanity in the manner He lived and died while here on the earth more than 2,000 years ago. The Bible warns to those who don’t believe in love. “WHOEVER DOES NOT LOVE DOES NOT KNOW GOD, BECAUSE GOD IS LOVE.” (1 JOHN 4:8)
