Some P23 billion has been earmarked for projects for this city under the Duterte administration’s Build, Build, Build (BBB) program, according to presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.

The money, Roque said will clome the government’s P8.44-trillion budget for the BBB.

No questions asked. That’s true. Dist. 1 Cong. had much earlier made a similar announcement, as again, it is apparent he was instrumental in its funds outsourcing. The aid can only come thru proper presentations with the administration in Manila.

The presidential spokesperson was in the city to witness the oath taking of barangay officials and to stand as one of the principal wedding sponsors of a Ruste family member, who owns one of the biggest construction businesses here.

Roque said the projects earmarked for Zamboanga would include building 102 roads worth P1.16 billion, among them, a 36-kilometer bypass road expected to be completed within the year.

These ones, however is new to one’s ear. “The bypass (road) will connect Zamboanga City to the cities of Dipolog, Pagadian as well as facilitate the transport of boat(s) to the Zamboanga freeport from Labuan district,” Roque said.

Roque said P2 billion is set aside for the modernization of the Zamboanga airport, which he said had remained in improvement for years.

“Your suffering is over,” Roque said in Filipino. “Finally you will have a decent airport a bit far from the town proper,” and assured people here that their lives would improve once all the BBB projects had become operational.

That is another certainty, too.

The Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco) is holding its fourth bidding for the Investment Management Contract (IMC) after the recent withdrawal of Meralco-Comstech from entering into the management deal with the electric cooperative.

Foolish for Meralco-Comstech, joining the bid and winning after a series of  conferences with Zamcelco management, only to withdraw.

Where is sense in that.

President Duterte is set to have a one-on-one dialogue with Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles who heads the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), following Duterte’s rants against God and the Church.

Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque confirmed the dialogue right after his meeting with Papal Nuncio Gabriel Giordano Caccia at the Apostolic Nunciature in Manila the other night.

Roque said they agreed to keep their talk private, baring however that both the State and the Church agreed to work in tandem for the welfare of the people. .

Valles, in an earlier response to Duterte’s scathing remark against God and the Church, urged the faithful to love and protect their faith, and to reflect on their long-held beliefs.

That, Valles stressed, is what makes God’s flock closer to the Church.

He concluded, “Don’t forget that you have experienced how wonderful, valuable, powerful our faith is - our relationship with God, Virgin Mary, and the Church.”
