5 OLD STRUCTURES GIVEN ULTIMATUM

THERE are at-least five (5) recorded old and dilapidated structures existing within the heart of the city that pose real danger to the lives of the general public in our la bella. This was revealed by our City Engr. Chris Navarro early this week.

He said when interviewed by this corner, “We already sent a letter (of notice) to them(owners), and reminded them about their dilapidated buildings that pose danger to our public. They have to do something so as not to pose danger anymore to the public,” Navarro enjoined them.

If I were to give them my unsolicited advice, they better repair their old structures that are more of eyesores than anything else here in our la bella with its now altered branding “Asia’s Latin City,” dislodging its old but more of glorious taste, “City of Flowers.” Or, better demolish them themselvesto help the city bring back a better image of our la bella –the only one we have in the entire world. For if they fail, I am of the belief our local gov’t has its inherent powers under the law, to include, most likely, demolish them at all cost, as part of its public safety measures.

The fact that even our la bella is highly vulnerable to major disasters, especially temblors or quakes, they indisputably pose danger without question. Zbga. City is said to be within the so-called Sulu trench that’s tagged by our Phivolcs as ready at any unspecified period of time to suddenly  wake up after more than a century being dormant, since its big bang sometime in the mid 1800s that wreaked real havoc to its entire environs, including even our poor la bella—resulting to throngs of lives perished.

If proven sans any doubt they indeed pose danger, and nothing is being done about it by their owners, the city should without any hesitance exercise such an inherent power, if true there’s, and flaunt its strong political will to teach them a great lesson in the end. That’s the only antidote into it. While the city gov’t is doing its utmost best to improve its image, here comes the uncooperative and unsupportive sectors in our community, out to ruin it, to our own chagrin. This is utterly devastating!

WHO’S NEXT, AFTER 2 MAYORS SHOT DEAD?

WHO’s next? That appears the question in the minds of many now, following the killing of another—involving a city mayor and a town mayor that happened just a day apart.

After a sniper’s shot snapped the life of Tanauan City Mayor Antonio Halili in Batangas during an early morning flag ceremony last Monday (July 3), this time a town mayor was likewise liquidated in broad-daylight. He was Mayor Ferdinand Bote of General Tinio, Nueva Ecija. They both suffered fatal gunshot wounds in the body, and were both declared DOA by their attending physicians. The PNP, as of this writing, has still remained clueless as to the whereabouts of their suspected gunmen.

These gun-slayings of the two mayors coincidentally came after Pres. Du30 warned all local gov’t chief executives to mend their ways on the heels of reports reaching the President that scores of these LGU chief executives are either involved in illegal drugs or simply incompetent to stay longer in their posts. Duterte, during his Address to the Vice Mayors’ League of the Philippines in Iloilo City, warned all top city/town mayors that he won’t hesitate doing everything to purge them if found indeed they’re.

In our la bella, no less than our lady Mayor Beng Climaco-Salazar, confirmed she’s under threat, as well. She bared that there are people out to silence her, to include the latest threat she got, and that’s a threat of chopping off her head. The lady mayor exposed the threat herself, in the course of the two separate cold-blooded gun-slayings of the two mayors, Halili and Bote.

Who is next? Buyak simbaku’! nuay mas era ay segunda. (By Jun Feliciano) (30)
