We should thank Duterte for his attacks on faith

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… `Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practiceis like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall’…” (Jesus, our God and Savior, in Matthew 7:24-25, the Holy Bible).

WE SHOULD THANK DUTERTE FOR HIS ATTACKS ON FAITH: Please allow me to reiterate one thing, in the face of continuing blood-curling reactions: I am thankful over the biting criticisms of President Duterte against the Catholic Church, including his daring assertion about the “stupid god”, and about the alleged inexistence of the God of the Catholic Church.

The non-stop criticisms of the President have become truly painful to bear, I can concede that, but Catholics should endeavor to look, not only into the searing pain of his assertions. They  must seize those attacks as God-given opportunity to explain to Duterte and to the world as well what the faith of Catholics is all about, and the veracity of that which they call “God”.

As I see it, other believers from other Christian groups should take advantage of the President’s tirades against the Christian faith and use it as an instrument to guide their members towards honest-to-goodness study of the doctrines and teachings of their groups, the Bible included, to enable them to fully understand what they believe in.

FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST BUT THEY ARE NOT EVEN AWARE OF CHRIST’S COMMANDS? The truth is that, at present, while many say they are Christians and are followers of the Christ, they are absolutely ignorant of His teachings and of the commands that they should obey. How did these people become followers of Christ when they are not even aware of what He wants them to do?

For a long time, many became members of their religious groups just because these are the same groups where their parents and other ascendants have been born into. As it were, it is there in those groups where they were baptized, married, and, chances are, where they will also die, some day.

The unfortunate thing however is that, it cannot be denied that these people do not know even just one bit of the doctrines espoused by the groups where they are affiliated. I can bet that they couldn’t even explain where their religions started, or where they came from. That was the religion where they were born into, so that has become their religion, too.

BELIEVERS HAVE GAINED NOTHING FROM THEIR FAITH: It is simply waste for these supposed believers. They have gained nothing, as it were, from their religious memberships. If only they had been taught to study well the doctrines and the commands of their religions that are rooted in Christianity, they will not fail to realize the truth that the Christian Bible contains know-how giving amazing powers to any man.

They would have understood that if they were true followers of Jesus, the Christ, he would have success and prosperity, health and wealth, in their lives. They would be clothed with the love and power of God, which will give them the power to do even the miracles that Jesus performed.

In times past, these were never taught to believers. Religious leaders did not want anything to do with the power that faith in Jesus gives. And this is where the Duterte criticisms prove to be beneficial to all believers---everyone is now given the chance to discuss, in media yet, who is God, and what are His gifts, particularly the gift of power, that are given to those who have accepted, received, believed, and have faith in Him.
