Raps vs. Bello meant to undermine his clean record

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… `It is mine to avenge; I will repay.  In due time their foot will slip; their day of disaster is near and their doom rushes upon them’…” (Deuteronomy 32:35, the Holy Bible).

REVENGE FUELS CRIMES IN RECENT DAYS IN RP: How times have really changed! Many of our people are now obsessed and seething with revenge against those whom they perceive as having blocked or stalled their personal and family fortunes in connection with businesses, contracts, or other forms of financial enrichment that they are pursuing.

They plan, or even directly carry out by themselves or through their subalterns, schemes to prejudice, or maim and injure, and even kill, those whom they believe, rightly or wrongly, were the ones who caused the derailment of their economic advancement or success. In some cases, maneuvers are also resorted to by them to prevent the promotion or advancement to higher positions of those whom they believe to be responsible for their misfortunes.

If anyone wishes to understand the reality of what I am saying here, they only need to look at recent events in our country, especially those which happened in just a week or two. I am sure they will not fail to realize that many of the crimes that took place hereabouts involving some prominent officials of government can easily be traced of out a desire for revenge.

RAPS VS. BELLO MEANT TO UNDERMIND HIS CLEAN RECORD OF SERVICE: Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III is decrying and pointing to two possible reasons why some people have been maneuvering  frenziedly as of late to implicate him in various wrongdoings amounting to corruption in his office, even if he swears he has not committed anything against the law.

First, the secretary disclosed, there are persons or groups who are rabidly interested to oust him from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and replace him as DOLE secretary as soon as possible. It would appear that these persons or groups, Bello added, are the ones behind those who are now making the accusations against him, to force President Duterte to kick him out.

Then, there are also people and groups who are similarly moving to prevent Bello’s installation as the next Ombudsman, knowing he is the front-running candidate for the position. This is brought about by some kind of an unwritten rule in the Duterte government which says that individuals aspiring for any position in the

bureaucracy should not be facing any criminal charges in any forum. Indeed, if Bello was made the subject of a graft case, he somehow loses the chance to be appointed as the country’s graft buster.

BELLO WILL NOT ENGAGE IN ANY CORRUPTION: I am of the firm conviction that Secretary Bello cannot do what they are accusing him with—that of asking grease money from a company engaged in the recruitment of Filipinos for overseas work in the Middle East. It is not in the character of the labor chief to be asking any favors from anyone who has any transaction in the offices that he had been tasked

to head.

I know this for a fact because when he was still Justice Secretary under Gloria Arroyo, I was then the senior reporter of a newspaper who was assigned to cover and report on the developments—including possible shenanigans, if any—at the justice department. I saw that there were plenty of opportunities for him to have greased his palms handsomely, but Bello strived to do everything above board. He will not do anything at present to soil his integrity.

To those who are acting against Bello now, what they should be concerned with is the promise of God that it is He who will avenge those who had lived their lives with full integrity. I am sure God’s wrath will come upon Bello’s foes, if not in this life but in the hereafter.
