Martir needs a helping hand

(Enlightenment—Passage of the Day)

Q.) HOW DO WE SHOW OUR CHARITABLE WORKS TO OUR FELLOWMEN? DO WE HAVE TO STIR A NOISE OR CREATE A FANFARE SO THAT THE WORLD WILL GET TO KNOW ABOUT OUR GOOD WORKS?

A.) “THEREFORE WHEN THOU DOEST THINE ALMS, DO NOT SOUND A TRUMPET BEFORE THEE, AS THE HYPOCRITES DO IN THE SYNAGOGUES AND IN THE STREETS, THAT THEY MAY HAVE GLORY OF MEN. VERILY I SAY UNTO YOU, THEY HAVE THEIR REWARD. BUT WHEN THOU DOEST ALMS, LET NOT THY LEFT HAND KNOW WHAT THY RIGHT HAND DOETH.” (MATTHEW 6:2-3) Email: jayfeliciano2@yahoo.com

S/SUPT. Thomas Joseph Martir is now our new ZCPO OIC, in lieu of the outgoing OIC, S/Supt. Alan Nazarro, effective on Thursday, Sept. 6.

Nazarro will be given a new assignment, according to PRO9 Deputy Director for Administration C/Supt. Edwin De Ocampo who officiated the formal turnover of command held in City Hall with our lady Mayor Beng Climaco-Salazar personally witnessing its momentous event—two days prior to the fifth year commemoration of the infamous Sept. 9 “Zamboanga Siege”-- the bedlam that terrorized the whole populace of “Asia’s Latin City.”

Martir vowed to mount its own internal cleansing, which means the purging of its own “bad eggs,” especially, those involved in the illegal drug activities in the city. He also promised to address the proliferation of the loose firearms in our La Bella. He likewise directed his personnel to put a stop to the wave of the gun-related cases in our city.

Great trumpeting of the message—like a stern warning to all these scoundrels having a field day, always, with impunity. Now, they’re all petrified by the strong statement from our new city police chief, though, still in an OIC capacity.

With the advent of the different major activities this month of September and onward during the “ber” months season, the new police OIC has his hands full these coming hassle-bustle days.

What we (the civilian populace) need to do is give our all-out support and cooperation to our own law enforcers, particularly our PNP/AFP, in the strict maintenance of our city’s peace and order condition for our own safety, security and protection. Let’s keep in mind that never ever again we’ll allow a repeat of those horrendous days when a series of bomb blasts marred our “Feast of Pillar” celebration in at least three separate occasions back in the dark days of Martial Law. Three of the bloody bomb attacks that rocked the city a number of times, occurred right at the ancient shrine of our Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar, the city’s patroness Saint. Dozens were killed and scores were injured during those bomb assaults reportedly perpetrated by the notorious Abu Sayyaf extremist group believed engaged in all types of atrocities--to include Kidnapping For Ransom (KFR), extortion apart from bombing.

AGAIN, let’s be all extra-vigilant, and unselfishly help each other in these critical times seemingly haunting the city, endlessly.

LET’s bring back our glorious past. We can do it, for if God is with us, then who can be against us? (By Jun Feliciano) (30)
