Niño bonito

(Enlightenment—Passage of the Day)

A. “REPENT!..” (MATTHEW 3:2) Email:

“Pencing, Dist. 2 Cong. Mannix Dalipe is now the most powerful local political leader of our city in the Lower House. No doubt about it, Pencing,” blurted one from the group discussing intensely politics over the weekend.

“What about Dist. 1 Cong. Celso Lobregat? Does this mean, all the projects for ZC will now be poured out for District 2 where Cong. Mannix is currently the niño bonito of House Speaker GMA, as far as Region 9 is concerned?” another from the group snapped.

Dalipe, for those not yet in the know, is Vice Chairman of the house committee on Public Works and Highways whose chairmanship was given to Lobregat when Davao Cong. Pantaleon Alvarez was House Speaker, then. The chairmanship now goes to Marikina Cong. Bayani Fernando.

Well, it looks like this is now what’s its reality in the Lower House for ZC.

Dist. 1 Cong. Celso was clipped off his power when former PGMA, the congresswoman of Pampanga, assumed as new House Speaker vice Davao Cong. Pantaleon Alvarez who’s doomed to nothing in the Lower Chamber nowadays. And, Alvarez is Cong. Celso’s known close associate who took him in as new member of the now mediocre PDP/Laban, last year. But, everybody knows now  that PDP/Laban will be upstaged sooner or later by the Davao City lady Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio-led “Hugpong Ng Pagbabago”(HNP), the fastest-growing political party in the making today. Look, who are the prominent political personalities across the country, joining the Duterte-Carpio political bandwagon, right now? There are lots of them, and to name a few, we’ve Imee Marcos from the Ilocos region, lady Senator Cynthia Villar and even Pres. Duterte recently joined his own daughter’s HNP party. Just the other day, Sara Duterte-Carpio’s HNP announced the following as its senate bets, namely: Senators Cynthia Villar, JV Ejercito, Sonny Angara who are all seeking re-election in 2019 midyear polls; Reps. Pia Cayetano (Taquig) and Zajid Mangungudatu (Maguindanao), Special Asst. to the President (SATP) Christopher Go, Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque, Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos and former PNP Chief (now BuCor) Ronald Dela Rosa.

That’s indeed a formidable team on the part of Sara’s HNP group.

Now, here’s our local political scenario that’s heating up incessantly up to election day, and many smell hell in our local political arena. With Cong. Celso, many have noted, is more focused locally as he now appears having wonderful time in the company of our ordinary folks living in our la bella’s suburban areas, and our lady Mayor Beng having her own “Dia del Alcalde” affairs in the different villages in the city, it looks like there’s no more turning back for both as majority of our voting populace here are even egging both to clash for the mayoralty seat in the upcoming local crucial elections in our la bella.

Ansina tamen sentido comun del mga hente aki Pencing,” an old aficionado in politics here sharply remarked.

The past discontentment of the Zamboangueños is coming back, to the point they’ll just vote anybody, except the present crop of leaders that we have for pretty long in our la bella.

Can’t blame them, period. (By Jun Feliciano) (30)
