I have witnessed how sports loving Zamboangueños are when I happen to pass by the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex last May 1, 2011 where over a thousand of Children and Parents taking part in the opening ceremonies of the 16th Basic Sports Summer Camp 2011 “Learn to Play Sport Program” of the City Government of Zamboanga.
No less than the City Mayor, Celso Lorenzo Lobregat, personally opened the said activity of the over 20 sports accredited organizations taking part. I was also glad to see our very own Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President, Joanna Mas who gave the welcome remarks, very visible before, during and after the event. Also present in the events are Coun. Benjamin Guingona, Coun. Rodolfo Bayot, Coun. Rudy Lim and Coun. Myra Paz Abubakar.
The event was organized by the Sports Development Officer of the City, Bernardino G. Patiño.
Despite of the slow pacing of our athletes in some of the National Games held last year and early this year and not to mention the dismayed performance in the recently concluded PRISAA National Game; the City is in the verge of strengthening its Sports Program to produce world Class Athletes for the City.
This is also timely for the upcoming P-Noy National Games that will be held at La Salle Bacolod , fourth week of this month.
My hopes are very high that this program is going to produce quality athletes in the future. As many kids ages 5-12 years old are very eager to start their practice. I even had encountered where the mother telling her kids to join a particular sport but the kid has a different sport in mind as they argued as to which sport to enroll. In the end, the kid’s choice prevailed, which I think is good since is hard to love something where your interest is far from what you are doing.
To our beloved Mayor and other supportive Local Officials, I salute you in coming up with this kind of activity for our Kids.
