Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ) through the Peace and Governance in Mindanao Project spearheaded the conduct of the Teachers Orientation to Peace Education to two National High Schools in Zamboanga City last June 1 and 3, 2011, respectively.
PAZ Executive Secretary Sr. Emma I. Delgado and Mr. Jupiter Pollisco, PGM Coordinators shared the relevance of the institutionalization of the Executive Order 570 that seeks to institutionalize peace education in the primary education and teacher education coursed through by Department of Education in collaboration to Secondary Schools.
Last June 1, 2011, Program staff visited Ayala National High School in the Faculty meeting of the said school. An orientation to the faculty about peace education as well as the PGM Project sponsored by the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) based in Davao City.
Dr. Socorro P. Canaya, Secondary School Principal of Ayala National High School shared significant appreciation to PAZ for the initiatives of bringing down the orientation to the faculty.
It had been noted that school Administrators were given orientation last year by Fr. Angel C. Calvo, PAZ President, Dr. Grace J. Rebollos, WMSU Presidnet and Ret. Schools Division Superintendent Hji. Abdu Rahim K. Kenoh among the high school and some selected elementary and district supervisors.
Meanwhile, PAZ Staff to include Peace Educator Arweda Jalilul and IRSMP Executive Coordinator Aldrin Abdurahim went to Sangali National High School last July 3 for another Teacher Orientation.
“It serves as an inspiration” disclosed Mrs. Elena F. Balan, School Principal of Sangali National High School. The Orientation gave the teachers a clear understanding of how the peace education in principle works and the various challenges that it will be facing.
The schools were very happy to receive the good news of being pilot beneficiaries of the PGM program. It will also include Southcom National High School and Ahlul Bayt Philippine Islamic Assembly. The partnership with the Department of Education for the many years allowed the organization to view partnership beyond relief but collaboration in peace and development. With the recent Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), PGM project will come a long way.
