The Department of Education (DepED) has mainstreamed Values education as a subject in the High School curriculum and Character Education in the Elementary School which aimed at values formation for students and pupils in the public schools.

Integration of values in all subject areas in the public schools, in the curriculum had, likewise been emphasized learning experientially how a person grows in self awareness, self-worth and interpersonal sensitivity.

The influence of the environment oftentimes are imbibed by the youth, hence, guidance, right formation, right values, internalization of positive values in education felt most imperative in the advocacy program.

Many assert that values are opinions and feelings or desirable traits; others opined they are “customs and traditions,” socially acceptable standards or worthwhile goals, beliefs, moral principles or code of ethics, - the responses range from vague and subjective interpretations to definite and objective concepts. Such contradictory range of interpretations on values practically lead to confusion and misconceptions among educators specially the mediocre and non-values education mentors.

To correct the confusion and several misconceptions, one has to examine and understand fully the fundamental difference between moral values and cultural behavioral values, and cultural behavioral values, a distinction which is often overlooked. Specifically, tracing  the origin  of absolute values to God, the Divine  Law-Giver and the Moral Law which is valid for all mankind and upon which all individual and social conduct must ultimately professed.

Understanding why Values Education is a natural right of the child. Why values education a preparation for life and eternity; lifelong schooling schooling in truth and reality-such as; the internal formation of the child’s conscience which judges right from wrong. Importance of virtues of the child’s determination to demonstrate the truth in his words and acts. Understand the external influences on the child’s internalization of moral values such as  family, parental role modeling, child-rearing practices; education in truth, schooling, teachers example, peers, cultural heritage, societal conduct; Socio-economic background, materialistic ideologies and lifestyles; environmental pressures and mass media.

In a nutshell, understanding the kinds and formation of values such as Moral Values, Cultural Behavioral Values, Natural Moral Law of God shall enable values advocates to interrelate and synthesize all concepts into a holistic knowledge and idea on Values in Education, thereby, comprehensive enlightenment and clearer thoughts may entice the individuals whom the insights being inculcated or shared.
