While it is true that the Philippine government is exerting all resources and even passing laws that would in a way elevate the ideals and vivacity of the molders – it is still insufficient to fill the gap between reality and imaginary , and seeing things in the lighter perspective the teachers of today are still the same unsung heroes of our generation. Compliment or a challenge , this intelligible truth is shaped by the countless pursuit for physical , emotional , moral , spiritual , and social development. With many non- teaching related assignments including administrative functions , tedious reports and even required attendance on community activities , teachers are always dedicated and ardent in carrying their responsibilities to the school and to the learners.
Today more than ever , our country needs teachers who shall carry the torch of knowledge and perseverance , the laurel of patience and humility and the crown of faith and optimism to bring back to limelight the glamour of education and to inculcate in the minds and hearts of every Filipino that education is indeed very significant in the formation of individual character and society’s progress. This may be very difficult for us to understand the plight of a teacher, if we haven’t known one. But wherever we go , we see teachers around us, and for this we are reminded that they are always one of the best treasures in life. The gems which are often not recognize for the heroic act devoted just to liberate one from the dark cave of ignorance and to acquaint an individual with the changes and stiff competition in a global village which requires not only the mastery of reading , writing , speaking and even listening skills but also the excellent use of information technology in the intellectual arena and social ground. While there are efforts and programs provided to boost their strong faith , commitment and integrity in the service of humanity these does not answer the purpose of ennobling the thirsty spirits and hungry soul . The tough task of developing a character and enlighthening the mind is priceless , and it is only a teacher who is entrusted with such arduous responsibility. More often than not they are always taken for granted and despised for their meager salary . Is this the way we are supposed to compensate them for their humble service and religious teachings ?
Being a young teacher, I am inspired to pursue a noble mission. It’s not because I am still a neophyte in the field but because I have realized what life is without teaching and learning. With this realization, I am in a way embolden to bestow selflessly whatever I can and to the best of my aptitude whatever is worth sharing for the preservation of truth , justice , respect and peace through my advocacies as an educator. For a very idealistic and zealous person , I have seen and heard some of the issues , concerns and practices which are not rightful for a public servant but I choose to stand by the dictates of my principles and voice of my conscience instructing me to disregard them and to work earnestly even if the pay is less than my sacrifices. While others are leaving the portals of their motherland to seek for greener pastures and better opportunities , there are still some who choose to stay and work in the society where nothing is guaranteed and security of tenure is no longer valued. Improving our current status and providing our family’s needs are just some of the reasons for leaving the station , a thought which is true to everybody. For those who have patiently stand the test of time and the storms of history , I am one of those who will always be grateful for your bold decision to stay and serve the community. With the numerous inspiration and reasons in the Teaching world , I am glad that I have chosen to be teacher . I am one of those who were called and chosen to be a mentor of humanity. I may not receive a Certificate of Recognition nor Appreciation when I’l reach my retirement age but I will be given a LIFETIME MEMORABILIA - for my pursuits to touch lives . It is the only invaluable legacy which is incomparable to any precious stone. As it is a living testament of how worthy I am as a servant of the People and Trustees of tomorrow’s guardians. Lastly , to my fellow colleagues , I salute you for accepting and living beyond expectation any challenging role - a play which some were not able to face fearlessly and sincerely. Yet , the rest succeeded I making a difference.
