Corona, Megaworld & SC 2004 decision

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love…” (Ephesians 4:2, the Holy Bible).

LACK OF PREPARATION HOUNDS PROSECUTION: Well, I am now inclined to believe that before they filed the impeachment articles against Chief Justice Renato Corona with the Senate for trial, the 188 congressmen who signed and endorsed it did not really prepare their cases, as they even failed to research Corona’s decisions as a justice of the Supreme Court involving the companies where he supposedly bought his posh properties.
Otherwise, they would have found out that on March 31, 2004, or more than six years before he became chief justice, Corona authored a decision in the case entitled “Megaworld Properties and Holdings, Inc. vs. Hon. Judge Benedicto Cobarde”, and docketed as G.R. No. 156200.

THE PEOPLE HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW: In that decision, concurred in by then Justices Conchita Carpio Morales and Angelina Sandoval Gutierrez, the Supreme Court favored Megaworld by striking down a Court of Appeals’ decision requiring Megaworld to pay some P25 million to a couple who acted as agents over a vast beachfront property which Megaworld contracted to develop. In other words, Megaworld was spared the agony of paying P25 million to the couple, which the Court of Appeals earlier ordered Megaworld to do.

Now, the question that must be answered here is this: is there a connection between that decision, written by Corona and concurred in by Morales and Gutierrez, and Corona’s 2009 purchase of a unit in the Megaworld-developed Bellagio Condominium in Taguig City? Is there a connection between the purported P10 million discount alleged by the prosecution panel to have been given by Megaworld to Corona and the decision he authored in 2004? The people are entitled to know.

NIBIRU: TRUTH OR FICTION? Are the information being posted in the Internet about “Nibiru” or “Planet X” or the “Tenth Planet” true or what? Can anyone in authority, like the US National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA), confirm or deny claims that “Nibiru” is headed towards the planet Earth, and because of its gravitational pull with the Earth and the Sun between October 2012 and December 2012, it could cause solar flares---or, literally, fires from the Sun---to leap out and reach the Earth and terminate all life here?

CUEVAS WARNING TO FOES: REAL OR NOT? Did former Justice Serafin Cuevas, lead counsel in the Corona impeachment trial, really accuse a lawyer from Malacanang of pressuring him to quit as Corona’s lawyer or not? Did his interview with the Inquirer really take place? The truth of this must be laid bare for all to see, because Cuevas really said a mouthful in the interview, particularly on his supposed warning against those harassing him to be careful because he can retaliate at a later time, after “they shall have stepped down from power”.

TRAGEDIES AND BELIEF IN GOD: The findings of the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction saying that the Philippines is number one among the countries of the world hit by deadly disasters for 2011 is just the tip of the iceberg---if Filipinos don’t watch out, more disasters in the form of rains, floods and strong winds will come walloping the country, and not just because of our peculiar location in the world’s ring of fire. It is more because many of us no longer believe in God, and, sadly, even those who say they believe, no longer believe truthfully.

REMEDY VS. DESTRUCTION FROM CALAMITIES: Rains, floods, and death and destruction from natural calamities have been prophesied to happen to the world, as a result of man’s refusal to listen to God and obey His commands. Nothing would be lost if, at this point of mankind’s history on this planet, we try going back to God by listening to His Word once more (which means reading His Bible once more) and obeying Him once again. This is the ultimate remedy against destruction coming our way (see Deuteronomy 28:15 to 68 and Matthew 7:24-27).

ZAMBOANGA CITY'S PALAY CHECK SYSTEM: There is wisdom in the moves of the Zamboanga City Agriculture Office and the Department of Agriculture in training farmers, housewives and out of school youth on the rudiments of the so-called “Palay Check System” to ensure higher yield, considering that many areas in the city and in Mindanao remain to be agricultural. Making better farmers out of the poor and the marginalized is a sure way of uplifting their personal and economic status and a way to take them away from rebellion. Congratulations!!!
