Who is the Filipino leader with God’s Spirit?

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… So Pharaoh asked them, `Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom the spirit of God dwells?’ ” (Genesis 41:38, the Holy Bible).

WORD WAR GOOD FOR THE COUNTRY: The word war between President Aquino and Chief Justice Renato Corona is heating up, and in all likelihood, is going to go for the worse in the next few days. Levity aside, I sincerely believe we should all encourage them to do this some more, for this is for the good of the country and the people since the whole exercise is fast becoming a cleansing process for everyone.

For example, Corona’s challenge for Aquino to release his, the President’s, statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN), as well as his bank and psychological records, is very valid, although greatly wanting. Why? Well, Corona should have also asked senators, congressmen and all other government officials everywhere to release their own records too, so the public may know.

Let us settle the issue of who among our officials are clean and not corrupt, now. Let us see who among our officials can really stand up and prove themselves clean and righteous, and did not dip their fingers into government coffers. Let us see who are really serving, and who are in office to be served or to help themselves. Indeed, it is now or never, for we may never have this opportunity again!

QUO VADIS, FILIPINOS? But then, let me reiterate once more: while our government leaders are at war with one another, natural calamities continue to pound our country, killing many people and destroying billions of crops and properties. Crimes continue to proliferate. Corruption goes unabated. No one seems to be doing something for the poor. Hunger still grips millions. Poverty still stalks many. Foreigners continue to prosper at our expense. So, really, quo vadis Filipinos?

LEADERS NEED SPIRIT OF GOD: The help we are all pining for, the help that will transform this country and the people into a successful nation, appears unlikely to come from the people who are with us right now. It is clear not even one of them exhibits the Spirit of God, which, as the Pharaoh of Egypt once declared, is one huge stumbling block to good governance.

Because the Spirit of God is clearly not in the heart of many leaders, their thoughts and actions are puny and useless, and will not give the country and our people something good. On the other hand, in Genesis 41 of the Holy Bible, we have been shown that when the Spirit of God dwells in a man, that man, no matter how lowly his past may have been, can literally chalk up miracles for the good of all.

WHO IS THE FILIPINO LEADER WHO HAS THE SPIRIT OF GOD? How then can we know that a Filipino leader has the Spirit of God in him? In Genesis 41, we are told that a man who has the Spirit of God is made wise and discerning. In Exodus 18, a man who has the Spirit of God is able, God-fearing, trustworthy, and hates dishonest gain.

In Mark 10:43-44, Jesus Christ, our God and Savior, prescribed a rule for a man who wishes to serve as a leader. He said: “whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of all.” Jesus justified these qualifications of a leader by referring to Himself: “For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Given these kinds of spiritual qualifications, it is clear that many Filipino leaders will be found wanting and unqualified. This is the reason why many of our  officials are corrupt and graft-prone. This is the reason why our country is not moving forward, and why our people are unable to attain their destiny as a nation faithful to God. How sad!
