INC and withdrawal of Corona charges

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… I call on the Lord in my distress, and he answers me…” (Psalm 120:1, the Holy Bible).

WANT INCREASED SEX DRIVE? TRY VIRGIN COCONUT OIL: Now, there is proof that men and women taking at least three tablespoons of virgin coconut oil everyday can achieve a significant increase in sexual activity. A study conducted by a group of doctors from the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) and commissioned by the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) confirmed this to be so.

Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala announced the results of the study as he presided over a press conference held at the PCA last Wednesday, February 29, 2012, in the presence of the UST doctors, Reynaldo Gabriel Naranjilla, C. A. Binag ang Bobby Santiago, PCA Administrator Euclides G. Forbes, and PCA public information officer Thelma Tolentino.

What are the interest of the Department of Agriculture and the PCA over the study showing increased sexual activity among regular users of virgin coconut oil? Well, since Filipinos are always interested to increase their sexual activity, they are expected to increase their consumption of virgin coconut oil, which, in turn, will necessarily increase demand for coconut.

MASSIVE COCONUT REPLANTING SET: Other significant items during the press conference: about P900 million has been allotted by the DA and the PCA for massive coconut planting or replanting and fertilization program nationwide; coconut export earnings for 2011 increased by 20.28% compared to 2010 earnings; P60 million has been earmarked for the implementation of PCA’s “kasaganaan sa niyugan ay kaunlaran ng bayan” (KAANIB) project.

MIRIAM’S OUTBURTS: Come to think of it, Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago has every reason to be angry during the day-to-day hearing in the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona. First and foremost, it was clear, from the start, that congressmen-prosecutors were lacking in evidence to pursue the eight articles of impeachment against Corona.

Then, the congressmen-prosecutors showed lack of savvy in proving the accusations which were not withdrawn by them. Furthermore, they were unable to compel the appearance of witnesses whom they wanted to present. And finally, they even had to withdraw five of the eight charges against Corona. With a prosecution team like this, Santiago could not be faulted for exploding every now and then.
INC RALLY AND WITHDRAWAL OF CORONA CHARGES: Was it a coincidence that, as millions of Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) members gathered at the Luneta and other parts of the Philippines last February 28, 2012, lead congressman-prosecutor and Iloilo Rep. Niel Tupas was withdrawing five of the eight articles of impeachment against Corona?

Is there truth to the claim of defense lawyers that the prosecution was spooked by the sheer number of INC members who joined the Tuesday event which, despite its having billed as a “Grand Evangelical Mission”, was actually a “rally for the rule of law”---and, therefore, was an expression of support for Corona and disapproval of efforts to impeach him?

Is it also true that the order to withdraw five of the eight articles of impeachment came from frantic leaders of government who were seized by fear of a possible withdrawal of support not only for the national leadership, but also for themselves especially because the 2013 elections is just around the corner?
