Stop the bombings, period!

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life…” (Romans 5:10, the Holy Bible).

DEADLY MOTORCYCLE MISHAPS: It was a gruesome sight straight out of an early evening TV newscast: two men lying on the road, blood oozing from their heads, with the motorcycle where they have been riding lying on its side amid a debris of broken glasses, and a panicking woman desperately trying to flag down motorists to ask them to go to the nearest hospital to get an ambulance.

But the scene was not a newscast: it was graphically real and true to life, simply because it was an accident that just happened when I passed by at the tunnel connecting Katipunan Avenue and C-5 Road in Quezon City at about 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. last Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012. As I stopped, the woman came, and asked that I report the incident to the Quirino Memorial Hospital just a kilometer away.

I did as I was asked by the woman, but from I saw, one of the two men on the road was already dead, while the other was seriously injured with blood oozing from his mouth and his head. What could have happened? Well, I maybe wrong, but accidents like this happen all the time when motorcycle-riders get impatient and attempt to overtake even on the wrong lane.

CAN EASTER EGGS INCREASE FAITH IN GOD? Just what can Easter eggs do to increase our children’s faith in God? This is certainly one religious tradition that we can do without. My take is that instead of herding our children to find painted eggs every Easter Sunday, we gather them and conduct Bible studies and prayer sessions with them, to instill fear and love of God in their hearts.

STOP THE BOMBINGS, PERIOD: Whether the Palawan bombings were caused by terrorism or by local thugs is beside the point, Miss Abigail Valte, deputy presidential spokesperson. The issue is the safety and well-being of residents, and of foreign and local tourists, as well.
If the police and the military cannot prevent these bombings, whatever the cause maybe, we cannot fault foreign governments from preventing their citizens to come and stay in the Philippines. This is one sure way of killing the country’s tourism industry, Ms. Valte, and should be readily addressed. In other words, stop the bombings, period.

BINAY SHAPING UP AS MAN TO BEAT: Even this early, there is an obvious exodus of politicians towards the camp of Vice President Jejomar Binay, and the coalition he has put up between PDP-Laban, his party, and Partido ng Masang Pilipino of former President Joseph Estrada.
This only confirms the growing chances of Binay to become the president in 2016. With politicos lining up for Binay, a bandwagon effect is now being created in the minds of the people. Barring any major scandal, Binay is seen to easily trounce other pretenders to the presidency come election time. Indeed, he is the man to beat!

THIRST AND HUNGER OF FILIPINOS ON MATTERS OF FAITH: Fr. Joey Faller, the priest who built the Kamay Ni Jesus (Hand of Jesus) shrine in Lucban, Quezon, should be congratulated for drawing some one million visitors to his place during the Holy Week. The large number of people who visited the shrine should attest to the thirst and hunger of Filipinos on matters of spirituality. But were these thirst and hunger quenched with the shrine visit?
