Sun as a scorching fireball

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… `If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned’…” (Jesus Christ, our God and Savior, in John 15:6, the Holy Bible).

FIERY SUN LITS UP METRO AFTERNOON SKIES: Every afternoon that I go on a brisk walk around the neighborhood at Teachers’ Village, Quezon City, I cannot help but notice how fiery the sun has become as it sets in the western sky.

It is an extraordinary sight, seeing the sun as a big fireball---no longer the usual golden and tender sun in my youth, but a smoldering fire-colored phenomenon, now that I am about to become a senior citizen, by the grace of God.

Why the change? All of a sudden, the sun seems too hot to handle, almost as if it is ready to torch and scorch the earth, the sky above it, and everything in and around it. There must be a reason for this, especially since weathermen, local and foreign, are saying that we should expect hotter days to come, far hotter in fact than what we have been experiencing lately.

SUN AS A SCORCHING FIREBALL: Scientists will fall on top of one another to explain that this is because of global warming and climate change affecting the whole world. But then, the phenomenon of a scorching sun, the spectacle of a fireball and fire-colored sun, is far removed from whatever it is that is afflicting the earth, global warming and climate change included.

Yes, the earth is becoming hotter and hotter and its climate is changing for the worse because its oil reserves are being depleted real fast, because its forest cover is almost totally gone, because its rivers and waterways and even its oceans are now gravely polluted. But nothing of these, even if destructive as far as the earth is concerned, have the ability to affect the sun and make it more fiery as the days go by.

If the sun is getting hotter and is ready to burn everything around it, including the planet Earth, it could only be because of something that is happening in it, something that is making it hotter, something that could enable its flares and fires to jump out of it and scorch the planets orbiting around it. What could it be?

HEAVENS WILL BE DESTROYED BY FIRE: We really could not tell, for this remains a mystery even to science itself. But the Bible, as the Word of God, can give us insights. For one, 2 Peter 3:10-12, tells us that a day will come when the earth, the stars, and the heavens and everything found therein, will be destroyed by fire. This part of the Bible says: “…That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire…”

In Malachi 4:1 (or 3:19, for some other versions of the Bible), we are told of almost the same thing---that the day of the Lord is coming, burning like a furnace. So everyone will be aware, here is what Malachi 4:1 is saying: “Surely the day is coming: it will burn like a furnace…”

Now, where is the fire that on the day of the Lord will burn like a furnace and will destroy everything in the heavens coming from? The sun? Or from some other supernatural source? Are the predictions in 2 Peter and Malachi going to be fulfilled by the burning and scorching sun in our solar system? What do you think?
