LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ…” (Ephesians 4:15, the Holy Bible).
NO ONE IS LISTENING TO LABOR: Year in and year out, as the country and the whole world celebrate Labor Day as a tribute to workers around the globe, Filipino laborers and their leaders never tire in going out to the streets to express anti-government and anti-business sentiments. Problem is, they have been voicing out the same sentiments every year, but no one seems to be listening to them.
LABOR MUST THINK OF NEW STRATEGIES: And the more stupendous thing of all in this annual exercise is the evident refusal of the workers and their handlers to recognize that, indeed, no one is listening to them, or what is worse, no one really wants to listen to them.
Indeed, either this noisy---and yet empty---celebration of Labor Day every year is simply a strategy to draw attention to the plight of our laborers every May 1, never mind the apathy or lack of concern of government and business, or, labor groups are simply too dense to realize that nothing good has really come out of what they are doing every year, and that it maybe time to think of more compelling things to do next time around.
MARCHES AND SLOGANEERING, ANTI-BIBLICAL: Come to think of it, can workers, laborers, and labor leaders really expect to get something good out of these yearly “march and sloganeering” exercises? Aside from the clear refusal of government and business leaders to even consider their plea---usually for higher salaries and wages---it would seem clear to many Bible readers and believers that going out on the streets and accusing our officials of crimes against labor is anti-Biblical.
Why anti-Biblical? Because marches, rallies and demonstrations are a form of fighting the authorities, or a form of rebellion against government leaders---something that the Bible not only frowns upon, but even threatens with grave punishment, here and in the life beyond.
BIBLE REQUIRES OBEDIENCE TO AUTHORITIES: Romans 13:1-2 has this to say: “… Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. “
1 Peter 2:13 says: “… Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.”
Hebrews 13:17: “… Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.”
Titus 2:9 says: “… Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive…”
