A man who went missing last Sunday after allegedly drowning offshore Barangay Patalon, this city, was recovered dead yesterday near Barangay Labuan.

Police Station 10 commander, Chief Inspector Raymond Sanson, identified the victim as Ronnel Galong y Sotto, 24, single and a resident of Sitio Agrarian, Patalon.

Sanson added that the victim was discovered by local fishermen floating off Labuan at about 6:20 a.m., yesterday.

The cadaver was claimed by the family and brought to the funeral parlor for a post mortem examination.

Initial police investigation showed that the victim was last seen having a drinking spree with friends along the shoreline in Patalon.

Probers said the victim forcibly took a “Bangka” from the children playing along the shoreline and rowed it towards the sea.

Local residents told the police investigator that they saw the victim reaching for the boat’s paddle after he accidentally released it.

The victim jumped into the sea to get the paddle but he struggled and drowned, police said.

The police and some residents jointly conducted a search and rescue operation but yielded negative result.

After 15 hours, the victim’s corpse was found floating near Labuan. (Eugene A. Lasprilla)
