70 of 98 Zambo Barangay Chairmen join PDP-LABAN (New members reach over 800)

Seventy out of the ninety-eight barangay chairmen have officially joined the ruling administration party Partido Demokratikong Pilipino– Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-LABAN) in the formal Oath-Taking ceremony and Basic Membership Seminar, yesterday.

In the presence of PDP Secretary General, House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, who was the inducting officer, the village chieftains were joined by some 469 Kagawads from District 1 and District 2. There were also 315 new members from the different sectors of society.

PDP member, District 1 Congressman Celso Lobregat said, they were only expecting close to 500 of the 700 individuals, mostly barangay officials, who earlier signified their interest to join the said political party. However, the turn-out was overwhelming and has exceeded their expectations when the total number of those who attended the PDP-BMS seminar exceeded850. This number doesnot include those who just walked-in, whose application forms are still being processed and validated.

“I wasn’t expecting this very overwhelming turn-out and response from the elected barangay officials. Many of them were apprehensive to join the ruling administration party, but I was surprised of their presence,” Lobregat said.

Lobregat thanked the barangay leaders who strongly believe in the leadership of President Rodrigo Duterte, the party chairman of the PDP-LABAN.

In his message before the formal oath-taking ceremonies, Speaker Alvarez stressed that those who came were not forced, but did it in their own free will and in believing in the noble intentions and dedication and pro-poor public service being pursued by the Duterte administration.

Alvarez urged his colleague, Congressman Lobregat and the incumbent local PDP-LABAN party chairman, Atty. Melchor Sadain to organize a strong and solid force in preparation for the conduct of the PDP-LABAN National Party convention scheduled anytime this year.

Alvarez also congratulated Lobregat and the organizers of the first ever mass oath-taking of barangay officials in the Western Mindanao region, which is also being patterned by other provinces and cities in the region amidst the ongoing national membership campaign of the PDP party. (Dexter Yap)
