El Niño expected in June - PAGASA

Although Zamboanga City still continue to experience rains the past days, PAGASA says the El Niño Phenomenon will most likely set in the month of June this year.

Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Chief Meteorologist, Maribel Enriquez said, based from their monitoring, there is now a fifty percent chance for the dry spell to be felt by residents next month until October.

“Puede pa man maga farmers siembra ahora cay ta experiencia pa man kita ulan. Pero si llega ya el Junio, puede sila escuhi maga siembra aquel quiere na sol,” Enriquez said.

The weather bureau explained that El Nino is characterized by unusually warm ocean surface temperatures in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific.

Enriquez said the drought could affect the normal rainfall pattern in the country, generally resulting in reduced rainfall.

“Na otro parte del maga lugar na Pilipinas ay puede tamen sila observa diferente clase impact del ulan,” Enriquez said.

She said the El Nino also causes the behavior of tropical cyclones to become erratic, affecting its tracks and intensity. (Nonong Santiago)
