At least 31 members of a Daesh or ISIS-inspired Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) have reportedly been killed in clashes with government troops in Maguindanao.since Saturday.

In a statement, Capt. Arvin John Encinas, Spokesman of the Philippine Army’s 6th Infantry Division, said members of the community reported to have seen the fatalities.

“We were not able to recover the bodies of the slain terrorists, but the BIFF members are known to retrieve their dead so they can be buried within 24 hours,” Encinas added.

According to him,  the operations against the BIFF, which were backed by air, artillery and armor assets, resulted in sporadic clashes at the tri-boundary of Talayan, Guindulungan and Datu Piang towns.

The breakaway BIFF rebels numbering around 300 were reportedly to be under Ismael Abubakar or Kumander Bungos,  blamed for a number of atrocities in Central Mindanao.

Encinas accused the BIFF lawless groups to have resorted to roadside bombing to divert the attention of the pursuing government troops.

Meanwhile, the Humanitarian Emergency Action and Response Team of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao said nearly 5,000 families have been displaced by the on going conflict.

Just like the Abu Sayyaf terror group, the BIFF has pledged allegiance to the ISIS, the extremist jihadists who now control large portions of Iraq and Syria.

Clips had been uploaded sometime in August 2014 on YouTube showing both the militant groups pledging support to the Islamic State or Daesh. Hader Glang
