An alleged member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and four other minors were arrested Sunday night by Marine soldiers manning a checkpoint in barangay Muti, this city.

The bandit, identified as Sahid Alip, 20, a resident of Sitio Niyog Niyog barangay Muti, was turned over by the Marine soldiers to the Curuan Police Station.

The four other minors with ages 16 and 17 were released by the police after barangay officials of Muti swore they were not members of the bandit group.

During interrogation, Alip admitted joining the Abu Sayyaf Group in Sulu under sub-leader “Ama Jan” in the year 2013.

“Abu Sayyaf ako sir pero sa taong 2015 umalis na ako doon kasi gusto ko nang magbagong buhay,” Alip said.

The police said, Alip was riding alone on a motorcycle along with four other companions who were riding on two other motorcycles when they were arrested by the Marine soldiers manning a checkpoint at around 10:05 in the evening.

The police said that by coincidence, the .45 caliber pistol of Alip fell from his waist upon reaching the checkpoint, thus he was immediately arrested by the soldiers.

The Curuan police is now readying charges against the bandit in court.(Nonong Santiago)
