Zambo City plunges into darkness Sunday night

Zamboanga City plunged into darkness Sunday night due to an unannounced blackout caused by a trip-off on the power lines of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) located in Baloi, Aurora in Zamboanga del Sur.

Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco) General Manager, Engr. Edgardo Ancheta disclosed that the power outages occurred at 8:38 p.m. at the Baloi-Aurora 138 KV line and Agus 5-Aurora 138 KV line at 9:22 in the evening.

Ancheta said the affected electric cooperatives included Zamsureco 1, Zamsureco 2, Zamcelco, Zaneco, MOELCI 1, MOELCI 2 and parts of Laneco.

The blackouts have upset all the residents in Zamboanga Peninsula, entire Misamis Occidental and parts of Lanao del Norte, said Ancheta.

“Nuay pa el NGCP abla si cosa el rason del power outage cay ta investiga pa sila el causa,” Ancheta said.

According to Ancheta, the last time a similar blackout occurred in Baloi-Aurora was caused by a large tree that was intentionally planted under the power lines.

But the blackout last Sunday is still being investigated by the NGCP and Zamcelco is still waiting for the official result.

Ancheta said, power was restored in some of the feeders at around 11:20 in the evning, supplied by the WMPC in Sangali.

“El 50 megawatts ta saca el Zamcelco na WMPC na Sangali ya ase kita on island mode, plus around 5.5 megawatts supplied by the gensets, amo ya usa para dale coriente cunel maga residentes,” Ancheta said.

The Zamcelco manager said that power coming from the grid was completely restored at 3:05 in the morning of Monday. (Nonong Santiago)
