Public warned vs recruitment scam

PDFPrintE-mail

The Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) warns the public against a recruitment scam purportedly for integration into the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) through the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and other groups.

This, as authorities on two separate incidents, intercepted some 60 persons in Zamboanga Sibugay and Basilan recently. Similar reports from other areas of Mindanao were also received by the OPAPP.

OPAPP Secretary Atty. Jesus Dureza in a statement said “unscrupulous individuals are recruiting male civilians in Mindanao to be integrated into the AFP using the name of MNLF and other groups”.

“There is no ongoing integration arrangement at all between the government and any group or faction under the peace process. This could be a scam or a handiwork of terrorists recruiting fighters to fight government,” Dureza warned.

The OPAPP has asked the assistance of Mayor Climaco for the massive dissemination of the advisory to avoid innocent individuals from being victimized by the scam. (Sheila Covarrubias/PR)
