One IED explodes, another recovered in Zambo City

An alleged improvised explosive device (IED) exploded and another bomb was recovered near a house at Kapuk Drive, Barangay Mampang, this city, Tuesday dawn.

Police Station 6 Commander, Superintendent Nonito Asdai said that the said IEDs were set-up near the house of a certain Mubin Hanapi y Tubilla, 63, a resident of said place.

Asdai said there was no reported casualty in the incident.

Bomb experts of Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) who processed the explosion area disclosed that two IEDs were found but one went off in low explosive power while the other IED failed to explode.

Asdai believed that the incident was triggered after a recent heated confrontation between Hanapi and a soldier, whose identity was withheld by the police.

Hanapi told police that he has no known enemy that he can think of, except the recent altercation.

The investigator-on-case, PO3 Damsa Bairulla is now collating information and witnesses that would pinpoint the suspect.

“After we gather evidences, rest assure we will file the necessary case against the suspect in court”, Asdai said.

Meanwhile, a PRB 423 fragmentation hand grenade was recovered by the police bomb experts at Suaib Drive, Purok 7, Mamapng on Monday night.

The said explosive device was found beside the outpost of Masa Masid of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAD) at past 9:00in the evening.

The said hand grenade is mow under the custody of the Explosive and Ordnance Disposal Unit (EODU) for proper disposition.

However, police are still evaluating the possible motive of the incident. (Eugene A. Lasprilla)
