PDFPrintE-mail

Some 500 farmers from the City’s 6 agricultural districts will gather at the Culianan National High School covered court Wednesday, September 13 for the 25th City Farm Family forum, a yearly event organized by the City Agriculturist Office.

Themed “Fiesta na Agricultura,” the forum will be highlighted by various competitions and the sectoral meeting where the group will discuss as well as resolve issues and concerns of farmers, Rural Improvement Clubs (RICs) and the 4H clubs.

Most awaited will be the “Bahay Kubo” competition where the farmers will showcase the products they cultivate in their backyards. The Bahay Kubo is inspired by the song of the same title and is a pilot program of the City Agriculturist Office under its Sustainable Household Enterprise (SHE) initiative.

The Bahay Kubo project is aimed to revive the typical but complete and healthy home. It has been launched in all agricultural districts to encourage farmers to optimize their land and be sufficient in providing for their family’s daily table needs and sell the excess produce for extra income.

Other contests include rice threshing and singing competition for 4H members and farmers.

The City Farm Forum is a prelude to the Regional Farm Forum slated soon. (Sheila Covarrubias/PR)
