Preparations for the National Youth Day in Zamboanga City slated from Nov. 6-10 are now on its final stage.

This, as the Archdiocese of Zamboanga led by Archbishop Romulo de la Cruz, Mayor Beng Climaco, police and military authorities and all other concerned groups met Friday afternoon to finalize plans for the 5-day national event that will draw some 3,000 youth pilgrims from all over the country and some parts of the globe to Zamboanga City.

The meeting discussed the roles of each and every agency concerned as well as issues concerning traffic, security, arrival, accommodation, transportation and all others concerns to make sure that the participants will be accorded the Zamboangueno hospitality, comfort and convenience.

The police and military will be implementing a comprehensive security plan as well as impose a traffic rerouting scheme to ensure a hassle-free conduct of the NYD.

Participants come from the youth sector and single aged 13-29 and will tackle social issues, social media, human trafficking, promotion of social advocacy, arts and culture appreciation and other relevant issues.

The NYD is a celebration of the ministry among and with their fellow youth as it provides opportunities for positive expression of youth ministers’ desire to embrace Christ’s mission among the youth. The 2017 NYD theme follows the theme of the 32nd World Youth Day “The Mighty One has done great things for me and holy is His Name.” (Lk1:49).

Participants to the meeting held at the Sacred Heart Center in R.T. Lim Boulevard included Acting City Police Director PSSupt. Neri Ignacio, Joint Task Force Zamboanga Commander Col. Leonel Nicolas, City Administrator Apple Go, the special events team of the City Government and all other concerned agencies and individuals involved in organizing the event. (Sheila Covarrubias)
