The police yesterday revealed that telecommunication companies were not ordered to cut its signal during the grand parade of the more than 2,500  youth who are in the city for the five-day celebration of the National Youth Day.

Police PIO Sr. Insp. Shellamie Chang said that the out of town youth are considered tourists and their parents are always contacting them to monitor their situation and whereabouts.

"Si manda quita canila curta el signal despues el diila maga parents ta precura canila man contact, baca man raise concern pa si hinde sila puede man contact," Chang explained.

It will be recalled that during the celebration of the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival and other important activities in the city, cellphone signals  provided by Smart, Globe and PLDT have been ordered cut as this could be used by terrorists to contact triggering devices of explosives.

Chang said that policemen have been assigned to secure the young participants in all the venues of their activities.

She said the youth are presently staying in various schools like the Ateneo De Zamboanga, Pilar College, Claret School and ICAS. (BND)
