City Police remains on heightened alert

The City Police Office remains on heightened alert status with the onset of the yuletide season.

Acting City Police Director Sr. Supt. Neri Vincent Ignacio said that the entire local police force continues to adopt heightened security measures since the Hermosa Festival celebration, All Saints Day, All Souls Day, the National Youth Day celebration and even up to the present.

The city police as well as its counterpart in the city, Task Force Zamboanga, is not ruling out the possibility that lawless groups like the extremist Abu Sayyaf Group might conduct terroristic activities especially with the coming of the Christmas season.

According to Sr. Supt. Ignacio, all the 11 police stations as well as the City Public Safety Company have increased their visibility patrol and mobile checkpoints particularly at night time.

He disclosed that motorcycle-riding cops have also beefed up its patrol in public places and major thoroughfares and vital installations of the city.

Meanwhile, the city police director also lauded the officers and personnel of the local police force for the successful implementation of security measures during the week-long celebration of the National Youth Day in the city.

The local police has adopted tight security in all venues of the National Youth Day activities to ensure the security, order and traffic.

Some 2,000 youth delegates coming from different parts of the country participated in the National Youth Day held in the city.—Jemuel E. Mojica
