Zambo City marks CCC’s 33rd death anniversary


Zamboangueños commemorate today, November 14, the death anniversary of Mayor Cesar Cortez Climaco who was gunned down while inspecting a fire site in Gov. Alvarez 33 years ago.

The commemoration kicks off with a mass at the Lady of Purification Church in Sta. Maria at 7am to be followed by a program at the Cesar Climaco Freedom Park in Abong-abong, Pasonanca at 8am.

The commemorative program will be highlighted by the message of Mayor Beng Climaco, who is the niece of the late mayor and the installation art where the public can write messages in relation to the theme “Cesar C. Climaco: The Relevance of his Pursuit and Mission to the Millenial Youth”,

The Cantamos Chorale and Tweena Campos will lead in the musical interlude featuring favorite songs of the late mayor. The Climaco family will give its message of gratitude.

Last night, Mayor Beng Climaco spearheaded the wreath laying rite at the assassination site in Gov. Alvarez together with the members of the Climaco family and the Rotary Club of Zamboanga and other agencies.

Other activities commemorating Climaco’s death anniversary dubbed as Dia de Cesar include groundbreaking for the Philippine Scouting Centennial Monument at the R.T. Lim Boulevard at 4pm on Nov. 15 and the Cesar Climaco Youth Leaders Assembly at Centro Latino at 6pm on Nov. 18.

The observance of Dia de Cesar is pursuant to a City Ordinance. Cesar Cortez Climaco also known as CCC served as mayor of Zamboanga City for 11 years and non-consecutive terms. He was an arch critic of the late President Ferdinand Marcos. (Sheila Covarrubias/PR)
