A man, pretending to be an army captain, was arrested by the soldiers of the Special Operations Command (SOCOM) inside the headquarters of the Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM) and later turned over to the Police Station 8 for charges of usurpation of authority and extortion.

Police Station 8 commander Sr. Inspector Daniel Taub identified the suspect as Raymond Candido Julian. He was arrested by soldiers inside WESMINCOM after he claimed that he is an officer and also an alumnus of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) belonging tof Class 2002.

Sr. Insp. Taub disclosed that the suspect pretended to be an officer and allegedly treated discourteously the commanding officer of the Light Reaction Company (LRC) who was supposed to be his underclass since the said commanding officer is a graduate of PMA class 2006.

The SOCOM headquarters immediately conducted some verification and to their surprise found out that claim of Julian is fake and he is bogus officer and not in any way affiliated to any branche of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Julian was turned over to the police for proper custody and further investigation. It was also gathered that he has collected P1,000 as processing fee for the application of a certain Boy Tujajin Salain, 39, native of Bohe-Tambak, Tipo-Tipo Municipality, Basilan Province, a Civilian Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) applicant.

However, Taub told Zamboanga Today that the suspect was eventually released from police custody after the complainants refused to pursue the filing of the case in court. (Eugene A. Lasprilla)
