A pupil of the Tugbungan Elementary School was turned over to police custody after he allegedly pointed a handgun at his classmate inside the classroom on Tuesday afternoon.

Police Station 6 Commander Supt. Hadkiri Langgal told Zamboanga Today that at about 6:00 in the evening of Tuesday, Joseph Arcillas y Zorilla, teacher of Tugbungan Elementary School and a resident of the said place, referred the incident to the police.

Langgal said that based on the report, Raneil, a 10-year-old pupil, allegedly pointed a loaded caliber .38 revolver at his classmate, Roy, also 10-year-old.

According to a police report, Reneil went to school bringing the said handgun and while playing inside the class, he took the gun from the bag and poked it on the head on Roy.

Police revealed that the incident was reported to the teacher who immediately confiscated the handgun.

The case was referred to the police and later, Reneil was turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for custody.

It was learned later that the DSWD turned over the boy to his mother after counseling and guidance.

The handgun is now with the police while an investigation is ongoing to establish the origin of the firearm. (Eugene A. Lasprilla)
