Satellite City Hall in Ecozone to open soon


The groundwork is now being laid for the establishment of a satellite City Hall at the Zamboanga Economic Zone and Freeport Authority in San Ramon in the west coast with operation tentatively set to start in March.

The move complements the thrust of Mayor Beng Climaco to decongest the city proper area and at the same time to bring government closer to the barangays.

At least 8 offices providing frontline services will be housed in one of the buildings inside the Ecozone compound, these include the City Veterinarian, City Agriculturist, City Health Officer, Civil Registrar, City Social Welfare and Development officer, City Treasurer, City Planning and Development Coordinator and the Business Permits and Licensing officer. The release of confiscated driver’s licenses for Police Stations 8 (Sinunuc), 9 (Ayala) and 10 (Labuan) will also be done at the satellite office.

The Zambo Ecozone Board has approved a resolution allowing the establishment of the City Hall satellite office inside the ecozone property. A memorandum of agreement between the city and the Ecozone will be signed and the mayor is set to issue the corresponding Administrative Order formalizing the set-up.

The department heads spearheaded City Administrator Apple Go last Monday conducted an ocular inspection of the area following series of meetings to discuss the issue. As of now, the City Government is complying all logistical requirements in preparation for the March 1 opening date.

With the opening of the City Hall satellite office in the Ecozone in March, all field offices of City departments including offices operating at the Ayala government center will be automatically transferred to San Ramon. (Sheila Covarrubias)
