Young girl elopes with brod-in-law (Cops to the rescue)

A Grade 9 student, who allegedly eloped with her brother-in-law, was rescued by personnel of Police Station 10 at the inner portion of Barangay Pamucutan, Zamboanga City on Valentine’s Day.

Police report disclosed that the 15-year-old student was allegedly abducted on February 04, 2018 by Charlie Sumilang y Magtangob, of legal age, a “habal-habal” driver, of Barangay Limpapa.

On Wednesday, Charlie and the student were seen by the complainant, Marivic Villegas, in Pamucutan, prompting her to seek assistance from the police.

A follow-up operation was conducted that resulted to the arrest of the “habal-habal” driver and the rescue of the girl.

PO2 Zamia Omar Alih of the Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD) told Zamboanga Today that the girl was not abducted by Sumilang but voluntarily eloped with him.

Police added that during the arrest, the authorities recovered two pieces heat-sealed transparent sachets of suspected, a plastic transparent wallet and a motorcycle without plate number.

The girl was turned over to her family while Sumilang was detained at the police station.

A case for violation of R.A. 7610, Anti-Child Abuse Law, and R.A. 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, will be forwarded at the City Prosecutor’s Office against the suspect.

The recovered alleged shabu will be submitted for examination at the Regional Crime Laboratory Office 9 (RCLO9). (Eugene A. Lasprilla)
