Mayor convenes CADAC


Mayor Beng Climaco on Wednesday convened the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) to gather updates on the current anti-drug efforts of the government and the subsequent measures undertaken by member-agencies to strengthen the campaign.

To help intensify the campaign to prevent the proliferation of illegal drugs, the Council will engage in a massive information drive utilizing the academe and the different media platforms to ensure people’s awareness on the prevention and control of the use of illegal drugs.

Based on statistics presented by the Department of Interior and Local Government-City Office, Region 9 is number 2, with National Capital Region as number one, in terms of drug affectation in the country.  Of the total 98 barangays, only 79 revitalized their Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (BADAC) and that only 18 submitted the BADAC action plans.

As this developed, the Climaco-led CADAC also approved a resolution creating a technical working group to look into the crafting of the CADAC and BADAC action plans based on the directive of the DILG.

On March 19, Zamboanga City will be the site for the ‘Rehabinasyon’ forum, an activity organized by the Presidential Communications and Operations Office (PCOO) and aimed to download to the public the programs of the government, especially on drugs, to totally rehabilitate our country.

The meeting was the first for the Anti-drug Abuse Council this year. The council, reconstituted through an Executive Order last year, is intended to serve as a focal point through which organizations and individuals can work together cooperatively in the planning, implementation and evaluation of programs on drug abuse prevention and providing for an effective mechanism for the coordination of existing services and programs among others.
