City Police Office conducts profiling of 500 Badjaos

At least 500 Badjaos  residing here in Zamboanga City have recently undergone profiling at the Barangay Hall of Kasanyangan, this city.

The profiling of the indigenous tribe was initiated by the Philippine National Police (PNP) based from the call of Indigenous People (IP) representative in the Sangguniang Panlungsod Councilor Tungkuh Hanapi.

Councilor Hanapi explained there were times the police have alleged that some of the Badjaos are members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG).

Police PIO Sr. Insp. Shallamie Chang said the outlining and profiling of their background is one way of clearing their names with the police.

“Este profiling ta hace el police base este na llamada di Consejal Hanapi cay tiene ta alega cay miembro el cuantos IP del bandido poreso ta man background check canila,” Chang explained.

Meanwhile, Chang disclosed that eight members of the Abu Sayyaf have already been arrested by the police in Zamboanga City since January to the present.

She said many of these bandits have decided to retire and have sought refuge with some of their relatives in the barangays here in the city. (Elinor Fernandez)
