Tugbungan river is most polluted in Zambo - EMB

PDFPrintE-mail

The river in barangay Tugbungan is one of the most polluted rivers in the city.

Thus declared DENR-Environment Management Bureau (EMB) Director Eduardo Callanta.

Callanta called for the creation of a Water Quality Management Area Committee composed of various sectors in the community purposely to help clean and protect the dirty and contaminated river.

The EMB chief believes that the pollution is caused by the residents living near the river who are throwing garbage and other wastes into the water.

“The barangay officials should have monitored the construction of the houses along the river banks. It should have a three-meter setback,” Callanta said.

Years ago, Congressman Celso Lobregat, when he was still the mayor, initiated the “Rio Limpio, Rio Vivo” program that saved the rivers from being polluted.

However, the program stopped after his administration. (Elinor Fernandez)
