City vet calls for protection of animals from extreme heat

Zamboanga City’s heat temperature has already reached 39 degree celsius the other day, according to weather forecaster Raul Aytin of PAGASA.

Because of this, City Veterinarian Dr. Mario Ariola yesterday called on all farmers to see make sure that their farm animals like carabaos, cows, goat including chicken are well taken cared of.

“Necesita gayot pone na sombra canila y hinde amarao alla na rice field acabar nuay sombra cay ay muri el animal na calor. Hente gane ta muri gayot na heat stroke,” Ariola explained.

Ariola said the hottest hour in the day starts between 10:00 in the morning until 2:00 in the afternoon.

PAGASA said summer is expected to start on the last week of this month or first week of April.

However, it is still possible that the city will experience rain due to the localized thunderstorm affecting the north west monsoon.

Ariola said there are already some animals that have succumbed to the intense heat.

He said animal owners should always provide water for their animals to avoid being dehydrated.

“Dale tamen banya con el animal y dale vitamina para healthy sila,” Ariola said. (Elinor Fernandez)
