Engineer, Policewoman latest shooting victims in Zamboanga

A Chief  Engineer of a shipping company and a police woman were shot dead in Barangays Tetuan and San Roque, Zamboanga City yesterday morning.

The police identified the fatalities as Almondo Rosalijos Monterola, 48, married, Chief Engineer of Aleson Shipping Lines, and a resident of Alvarez Drive, Tetuan, and Police Officer 2 Lydia Jada Halid, assigned with Police Station 8, and a resident of Pasay, San Roque.

According toSupt. Hadjiri Langgal, Commander of Police Station 6, disclosed that Monterola was driving his Honda Wave motorcycle bearing plate number 5115 JFcoming from the city proper traversing Alfaro Street, Tetuan.

Langgal said that the unidentified suspect repeatedly shot Monterola near CitiMall, hitting his neck and the back of his body, causing him to stumble on the pavement of the road.

Hadjiri added that Monterola was pronounced dead on the spot by the medical response team.

Recovered from the crime scene were two spent shells, Monterola’s motorcycle and some personal belongings.

After about two hours, a policewoman was also shot dead. Supt. Mark Azur, Commander of Police Station 7, said the policewoman was driving her motorcycle when shot by the unknown suspect yesterday morning.

Recovered from the crime scene were two spent shells of caliber .45 pistol.

Accordingly, PO2 Halid was driving a motorcycle allegedly with a minor back-rider when she was shot by the gunman.

The police are still conducting a deeper investigation to establish the identity of the shooter and determine the motive of the killing. (Eugene A. Lasprilla)
