PASUC President, Environmental Entrepreneur to grace WMSU graduation


The two-day commencement exercises of the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) will be graced by Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, President of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC), and Inv. Robert Y. So, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ecosystem Technologies International, Inc.

Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, who will speak before the graduates on April 4, 2018 is also the president of Batangas State University (BatStateU) and was elected as president of PASUC in December 2017. A reputable professor in the fields of electronics, communications, instrumentation and control, mechatronics engineering and management, Dr. Ronquillo is an accreditor of the Philippine Technological Council- Engineering Accreditation Commission. He is an active member of the Australian Association for Engineering Education and possesses a strong background on Washington Accord outcomes-based accreditation and quality assurance in engineering education. He is an esteemed researcher having presented and published his researches internationally, and submitted several intellectual property assets application such as utility model, inventions and industrial design. As president of BatStateU, he provides strategic leadership for the attainment of the vision of the University and assumes a lead role in initiating innovative programs in instruction, research development and community service.

To give the keynote speech on April 5, 2018 will be Inv. Robert Y. So of the Ecosystem Technologies International, Inc. He specializes in environmental, water and wastewater treatment, and technology solution provider. As an inventor, Mr. So is a contributor to the rehabilitation and cleaning up of the Pasig River through its treatment plant in the pilot project of Estero de Paco. He donated a state-of-the-art wastewater reclamation facility to the City of Manila to purify the Paco Market’s wastewater and a portion the Estero de Paco which is a heavily polluted body of water. In the past 25 years, he had successfully design more than 500 water treatment and water reclamation plants.

This year’s batch is led by two summa cum laude, namely:  Fatima Areej S. Lu, Bachelor of Science in Political Science, who got a general point average (GPA) of 1.1030 and Albert Julian M. Barjose, BS Mechanical Engineering, who got a GPA of 1.1392; five magna cum laude; and 64 cum laude.

The 73rd commencement exercises banners the theme “Crossing Borders, Weaving a Future: Facing the Challenges of Generation Z and Beyond. It will be held at the Dr. Juanito Bruno Gymnasium. (Liezel M. Parreño, WMSU-PAO)
