House of Representatives Committee on Public Works and Highways Chairman, Congressman Celso Lobregat is doing personal representation at the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) national office to fast track the realization of the P360 million flood control project and pumping station for Zamboanga City’s Central District.

Heavy rains the past days once again caused heavy flooding in the main streets of the city proper, particularly along Pilar Street and its connecting roads.

Lobregat said that the National Government, thru the DPWH, is not only solving the traffic problem of Zamboanga City, but also the flooding problem.

He said that the 2018 General Appropriations Act of DPWH provides for two projects worth P360 Million for flood control in the center of the city.

“Since the pinpointed location in that flood prone area in the central district is below sea level, we cannot let it remain that way forever because all the establishments and motorists who utilize the roads have suffered much due to the flood. We must find solution to it immediately,” Lobregat said.

The crafting of a master plan for flood mitigation is ongoing. The plan includes the purchase of a property at the end of Pilar Street to house a pumping station.

Lobregat extended his utmost gratitude to his classmate, former DPWH Secretary Babes Singson and to Secretary Mark Villar for making Zamboanga City a part of President Duterte’s BUILD! BUILD! BUILD! Program. (Dexter Yap/PR)
