At least 26 policemen, including Supt. Hadjiri Langgal, Chief of the Tetuan Police Station, have been recalled to the Zamboanga City Central Police Office following the jailbreak on Tuesday dawn where 16 detainees escaped.

City Police Director, Sr. Supt. Neri Vincent Ignacio has appointed Supt. Alvin Saguban, Chief of the Regional Mobile Force Company as replacement of Langgal.

Ignacio disclosed that cases of infidelity and neglect of duty will be filed against those who are directly involved in securing the prisoners at the Tetuan Police Station.

He added that those who will be free of any liability will be made to undergo retraining and schooling.

“Infidelity and neglect of duty are grounds for dismissal in service,” Ignacio explained.

However, he said, they will be given due process before the filing of any administrative charge.

Ignacio said, Saguban will now head the Tetuan Police and he is bringing with him 30 to 40 of his men, considering the number of policemen who have been recalled.

He called on other police Chiefs to ensure that similar incident will not happen under their respective jurisdictions. (Ely Fernando)
