City hires 1,400 studes for SPES 1st batch

Some 1,400 college students are hired as City Government Employees under the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) effective today, April 16.

The college students compose the first batch of SPES beneficiaries which will employ a total of 2,766 college and high school students. Work period for each batch is 20 days. The second batch, composed of 1,366 high school students will be employed sometime May to June.

The first batch will kick off work in the barangays and selected government offices today after the 9am orientation at the City coliseum in Tetuan.

SPES is an annual joint undertaking of the City government and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) at 60-40% sharing. The city this year has allocated P15million for the program that caused the increase in salaries of the beneficiaries.

Each student will have a daily salary rate of P477.73 or a total of P9,554 for the 20-day period. The 60% salary counterpart of the city is P286.60 daily while the 40% will come from the DOLE.

The orientation today will also be attended by  barangay officials with representatives from the DOLE and the City Human Resource Management Office (CHRMO) as resource persons.
